Dragon Quest III HD – 2D Remake NSP

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is an action-adventure game. When I first saw a demo of the game, formerly known as Project Octo path Traveler, back in 2017, I had no idea that it would not only become one of my favorite Square Fenix RPGs, but also that its charm would be reflected in some of the publisher’s best titles in recent years, including List Quest III: A Resurrection. I read about a mobile version of Dragon Quest III back in 2014; that was my first introduction to the game.

In short: an HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest III has been announced, and I’m not sure how faithful it will be to its origins, how well its classic style will adapt to the HD-2D format, or what improvements we can expect from the game. Don’t miss Josh and Adam’s previous previews of the remakes, published last month and in June, respectively. As part of this preview, I had the opportunity to play the first few hours of the latest title on Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck thanks to Square Fenix’s early access codes. I’ve played all the games in HD-2D on all platforms since 2018, and I’ll be focusing on my impressions of both versions.

1. Download the ROM file from a mirror above.
2. On console: copy the NSP/XCI to your SD card and install with a homebrew installer.
3. On PC: open Yuzu or Ryujinx, add the game directory, then launch the game.
4. Apply the included update/DLC for the full experience and enjoy!
